Recently, R3Vox hosted two of our European distributors in Malta for Voxometer training for systems they had purchased prior to taking delivery.

St Elmos Lighthouse Survey, Valletta

The Voxometer is the world’s first Multi Aspect Survey System.  The Voxometer can scan the seafloor forward and aft, at multiple frequencies.  All parts of the seafloor are constantly scanned at various frequencies, angles, and times.  The Voxometer has two modes of operation: the Classic Mode, where data is streamed to the customer’s data collection software; and Vox Mode, where the full benefits of the Voxometer are realised and the surveyor can output a cleaned XYZ dataset at the desired survey density.

Because the majority of European customers prefer to use their own data collection/processing software, the demonstrations were done in Classic Mode.  In Classic mode, the Voxometer has a frequency range of 100kHz to 1 MHz. Classic mode also incorporates the Enhanced Quad Mode, where the seafloor is scanned fore and aft using four distinct frequencies per ping, or transmit cycle.  The surveyor selects the centre frequency, and then the Voxometer transmits two higher and two lower frequencies (with a frequency separation of 22kHz), all within one ping cycle.

Enhanced Quad Mode not only provides significantly better coverage but also allows for increased survey speed, ensuring that no gaps in data exist.

Another feature of Classic Mode is operating the Voxometer in MegaRes® – 1MHz (but not in Enhanced Quad, where the highest frequency is 950kHz, allowing for the two higher frequencies).

A 1MHz operating frequency provides the highest acoustic resolution of any other sonar, and can be used to depths of 40m!
